In my first year I was put to task to create a short documentary about any topic of my choosing. This semester took place online during a covid lockdown so I had to complete this work using my phone and a tripod off Amazon.

I chose to make a documentary about a young Indian woman in Melbourne and her choice between an arranged marriage and dating as we do in Australia. I recorded an audio interview with her, shot observational footage, sourced royalty free music and footage, edited all the footage together, etc. This resulted in a short four minute documentary which went onto be screen at seven film festivals, was awarded a few honourable mentions and was streamed on multiple streaming services, and can currently be watched on SBS on demand.

From this experience I learn the importance of story telling. Although this was filmed on my old phone with no professional equipment it still went on to achieve success and is something I am still proud of two years on.
